Storage space was limited in this compact modern kitchen, so San Francisco-based KBC-Design invented some creative storage options to accommodate everyday appliances and to reduce visual clutter. Here, above a Sub-Zero refrigerator drawer and a maple butcher-block prep surface, a secret solid-paneled door reveals a slide-out plywood platform that supports a toaster and a coffeemaker.
Hidden, but accessible. A magnetic touch latch opens the bright red door, providing access to the toaster and the coffeemaker. Hiding these appliances not only cleans up the look of the kitchen, but it also increases prep space on the butcher-block countertop.
